LOW LIGHT INSTRUCTOR
The low light instructor development course was designed to meet the needs of instructors looking to learn, improve & study various methods of teaching low light training programs. In order to aid in building valuable programs for law enforcement departments or dedicated training entities.
Instructors will learn the fundamentals of low light applications, human anatomy, low light principles and incorporating the material into their in-service training or programs. Instructors will be introduced to live fire, force on force, injured shooter low light applications and will be expected to conduct teach backs over the course of the program.
Students will leave with a full instructor packet to include extensive lesson plans, a power point, video diagnostics, diagrams, and relevant studies. This course will have long days and nights. Upon satisfactory completion of this course students will be awarded a Low Light Instructor Certificate.

INDIVIDUAL EQUIPMENT LIST
- Handgun with at least 3 magazines and magazine pouch.
- Carbine with sling. A weapon mounted light is strongly recommended (if allowed by department SOP). A minimum of 3 magazines and a method to secure them is required. Carbine needs to be zeroed prior to class.
- 600 rounds handgun / 400 rounds carbine (no green tip) ammunition
- 100 handgun & carbine NLTA marking rounds - ANY MANUFACTURE YOU ISSUE IS ALLOWED
- If you do not have NLTA we will provide it for you!
- Force on force helmet and neck protection. Groin protection (sports cup).
- CAT or SOF T TQ on your person is mandatory an IFAK is recommended.
- Cleaning kit and gun lube.
- Eye protection and electronic ear protection.
- Full duty belt / tactical loadout (your normal work setup).
- Handheld flashlight(s), extra batteries and clear eye protection for low light work.
- Headlamp is strongly recommended.
- 6 chem lights (any color) or electronic PID device
- Notepad, pen, perm marker and thumb drive (needs 4 gigs of available space).
- Water and snacks
Course Prerequisites
- Current LE / mil / gov credentials.
- Recognized basic instructor certification (i.e. POST, TCOLE, NRA LE, etc) is recommended but optional.
- FTO (Field training officer) or Academy cadre status can be used in lieu of an Instructor cert.
- Able to demonstrate and employ safe weapons handling during courses of fire.
