Had the pleasure of hanging out with the Gateway Defense crew talking all things low light, gear considerations and human anatomy. Give it a listen and follow the great guys over at Gateway!

A quick impromptu breakdown of how to install the Practical Individual Medical Pouch (P.I.M.P) - from Kinetic Consulting & Flatline Fiber Co. Scotopic (Low Light) Handgun is our low light course designed for students looking to further their knowledge and proficiency of low light applications. This course focuses on how to employ your weapon system in various low light environments while understanding the primary flashlight applications, techniques, and tactics in low light engagements. Students will also be introduced to injured shooter applications combined with low light on night two of class. The days will culminate with testing students overall skillsets on night three with force on force scenarios in order to test and evaluate techniques, tactics under opposition. Scotopic Handgun primarily focuses on employment of handheld, weapon mounted light, injured shooter applications, come prepared mentally & physically. Brief
Here is a way I like to explain part of the vision process when it comes to low light theory & anatomy. I often find if I can make the material more relatable to the audience they have a greater chance of understanding the material. Of course this is just one example, there are plenty more. Breakdown The way we process information is dependent on line of sight, distance and lighting conditions. Information is generally received in bulk through vision which is then transferred to the visual cortex of the brain for processing. That transfer process is instant as long as conditions allow it to be. Vision is similar to how a network operates. You have the net(information), which is then transferred to a router/modem(vision) than broadcasted to a computer(brain). Distance and barriers can affect how fast that information is sent back and forth for processing. Low light applications are similar in the fact that light is needed to gather information. Distance and barriers will affect that process. The greater the distance and barriers the more light is needed for information. The lesser the distance and barriers the quicker problem solving can occur potentially. Understanding these direct correlations will help us carry the right tool for the task at hand. These targets were designed with everyone in mind, meaning that any shooter ranging from an enthusiast level to the professional level can implement these targets into their range sessions. All you need is a printer, some ink and a shot timer (If you want to push yourself a bit more.) They can be ran as is or modified to each individuals needs. There are no shortcuts on the road to mastery.
